This review is for The Case of the
Soggy Vandal, the first real book in The Alex Mysteries of books by the author,
Barb Asselin. It’s also the second in the collection of six books written by
this author which I’d won through a giveaway on LibraryThing. The following is
my honest opinion.
Being a child of the 1950’s this
series of books reminds me of the Nancy Drew Mysteries written for girls and
The Hardy Boys written for boys, buy for much younger audience.
This story starts at the end of the
school year Alexi [Lexi] and Alexander had first met; but now they’ve become
the Best of Friends and those who know these two are now calling them The
Alexes because of the sleuthing activities together they’ve been involved in as
a team.
For an unexplained reason some vandals
had apparently targeted Lexi’s home and had destroyed some property in her
backyard. At first things seemed to point to one individual, which proved to be
wrong as their investigation continued. Towards the end Alex figured out who
the real culprit had been, the culprit had been the one no one would have ever
suspected.
This story is bound to holds its
young reader’s interest as they follow the Two Alexes in search for the answer
to who did the damage in Lexi’s backyard, which is why I’ve given this book 5
STARS.
NOTE: If the spelling smells odd or
a word seems out of place it’s because the author has used the Canadian/British
spelling or usage of the word. This doesn’t affect book’s enjoyment.
