FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Trust

Before you read my response to the prompt word of TRUST Lillie has given her readers to respond to this week, I must thank her.

For almost two years now, on almost a weekly basis, I’ve responded to her prompts, which on many occasions have helped me get over an incident of writer’s block I’d been experiencing in one of my writing endeavors. Lillie McFerrin has been the inspiration in my compiling the items in my second book, “Micro Fiction – An Anthology” and I want to thank her now for that.

WHO WILL HE MARRY?

T he time came one day when Prince Michael had to decide which Princess he should marry

umor had it that Princess Michelle had actually slept with a peasant and had a child with him.

U rsula, a princess in a faraway kingdom, is so fat he wouldn’t be able to put his arms around her.

amantha, a princess in another faraway kingdom, had a heart of gold but is as ugly as ugly could be.

he unfortunate thing is that his father, the King, was on death’s door, but with no one he could TRUST to help him to make his decision, he now had to let his heart make the decision for him.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - IRRITATION

Well I’m back again this week with my response for Lillie’s prompt word of “IRRITATION.”

MISTAKEN IDENTITY

The other day Denise Dey received a certified letter stating her husband’s car would be repossessed if a payment isn’t made within 14 days.  It didn’t seem to matter to the customer service representative she spoke that the car had been paid off two months after he’d died, even after the documentation had been faxed to them.

Denise explained her situation over and over, again and again, to one individual after another; but all of her efforts seemed to have been fruitless. Finally with two days left you can just imagine how irritated she felt when she’d received a phone call vice-president of the company apologizing for the inconvenience they’d created. It appears they wanted someone else, they wanted a Denice Day and not her.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Flight

After not having responded to Lillie McFerrin’s prompt word each week, I wanted to do it last week with the prompt word of “ENVY,” however by the time I got around to post the links I’d been locked out of doing so.

I first started responding to Lillie’s prompt words back in January/February of 2012, and a few months I decided to compile an anthology of all the prompts I’d posted links for on her site. I wanted to have 100 items in it, however for one reason or another I came up short. This meant I had to back track to pick the prompts I missed responding to.

It’s taken me a while to complete this task and I’m happy to report that I’ll me releasing this anthology shortly. Right now I’m waiting to receive a print PROOF COPY for it; which I’m scheduled to receive on Monday, November 24th. I wanted to have all of the 100 items to be five sentences long, but with the editing which has occurred this could no longer be possible. The book is entitled Micro Fiction – An Anthology.

The following is one of the items in the book which has been edited so it would only have five sentences.

THE TREASURE TROVE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FLIGHT OF STAIRS

Mary looked out her window that morning and seeing the rain realized she’ll have a very miserable day, she asked her mother, “Would it be okay if I explore the rest of the house today?”
“You can, but remember the attic is still off limits; the staircase there hasn’t been fixed yet.”

Turning on the light switch at the top of the stairs, she slowly walked down the steep FLIGHT of stairs. Once she got to the bottom Mary saw a huge wooden chest in a corner, and went over to investigate it. The instant she opened it, she discovered it was filled with all sorts of stuff any girl her age would love.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Envy

I know it’s been a while since I’ve responded to one of Lillie McFerrin’s prompt words, but I’ve been engrossed in my other endeavors. And as you can see from my posts here, one of them is that of having recently become a Book Reviewer. In additional, I’m happy to announce that a few days I’ll be releasing my second book, Micro Fiction – An Anthology. And has soon as I can, I’ll be providing details about it.

THE MONSTER WITHIN

Edna is really a sweet person once you get to know her, but unfortunately is not the type of person you really want to be friends with.

Now don’t get me wrong, she’s a great individual who she does have one trait which can turn her deadly.

Vying to have anything her little heart desires as long as she doesn’t know you have it, everything’s okay.

Yet, the moment she finds out you do, you need to watch out.

You need to watch out because she turns into a green monster known as ENVY.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - LUMINOUS

Well I’m back to writing my responses to Lillie’s prompt word. The main reason I haven’t writing any is I’ve been busy doing a first round editing of the anthology of FLASH FICTION I’ve compiled.

ONE LONELY NIGHT
On a dark night Mary’s car broke down on a lonely road. However luck hadn’t been with her as she’d broken down in a dead-zone for her cell phone, but she remembered seeing an all-night gas station a mile or so back. After rummaging through the glove compartment and then the truck until she finally found a flashlight, which she used to light her way there. Unfortunately the flashlight died a quarter of a mile from it, leaving her alone on a darken road. Then, all of a sudden, a luminous full moon came out from behind the clouds to light the rest of the way to her salvation.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Pages

This week Lillie McFerrin gave us the prompt of “PAGES.”  So this week I’ve decided to respond my giving a micro-bio of my writing endeavors.

What To Write As My Response ???

Here I sit at my computer, an aspiring author of romance, racking my brains of what to write next on the blank screen in front of me.

I once had started to write a Contemporary romance novel for several without any success in getting something I felt would be good enough to self-published.

Finally, I took the advice of someone to write something for a younger audience, and wound up writing a YA Paranormal romance novel entitled “I Kissed a Ghost.”

I followed this with several projects, I’ve now got an anthology of Flash Fiction I’m editing; a YA Urban Fantasy entitled “The Secret of the Well, which is now a sequel to my first novel; a total rewrite of my unsuccessful attempt at writing romance which is now entitled “His Darkest Secret,” and finally I’m now writing Haikus, with the hopes of compiling another anthology.

The problem I’ve got at this very moment in what to write on the blank page in front of me as my response to Lillie’s prompt word this week of “PAGES”

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Fenced

This week Lillie McFerrin gave her readers the prompt word of "FENCED." And after thinking about how I should approach I read a news item on the internet which gave me the inspiration as what I should write about.

THE TIMES HAVE CHANGED

Frank has always wanted to own property on which to build to his dream home with his two hands, for his wife and five children.

ENdora, his wife, had always stood by her husband through good times and bad, supporting his dream for the betterment of their family.

Construction took Frank ten long years working after work and on most weekends.

Eventually the last nail got nailed and the entire family had moved in.

Despite how wonderful the surroundings had been when he started, Frank now had to replace a huge fence around his creation, merely to protect it and his family.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Wishes

Given the prompt word Lillie has given us this week of “WISHES,” if feel as it’s a good opportunity to offer another UNEDITED SNIPPET from my W.I.P, an adult Contemporary with a paranormal element running through parts of the storyline entitled “His Darkest Secret.”

In this snippet, it’s Friday, and Jessica has been married to Warren for only five days. She has just returned home from work and as she at the front door with the keys in her hand she begins to quickly think of Bill, her relationship with him and the child they had produced, as well as other items.  She then begins about Warren came into her life, answering her silent prayers.

MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN FULFILLED

Who knew my prayers would be answered the night Warren showed up at my front door as I ate dinner with a letter stating I’m ready to use his services as an architect from Bill.   Who knew anyone else, but me, would be receiving a letter from Bill; much in the same manner I’ve received several from him, with each letter coming when some important or special event which would be happening shortly in my life.

I wish I could tell someone this story, but who’d believe me, especially the way our lives have crossed so many times even before we knew each other.   Yes, who’d believe me, because at times I can’t even believe it myself, and I’d lived through them.

I can’t stay here thinking about the pass, I need to go inside and get on with the wonderful life I now have with Warren and our three children.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Marriage

This week Lillie McFerrin gave us the prompt of “MARRIAGE” on her website [http://www.lilliemcferrin.com]; and as I down this morning to think about what I should write about, the thought of simply posting a small snippet of my W.I.P came to me.

I’m now over 90% completed writing my adult Contemporary romance with a paranormal element running through parts of the storyline entitled “His Darkest Secret.”

In this snippet Jessica is sitting in the huge leather chair in her office/den as she quietly holds the old picture of Bill on first day on the job as a volunteer firefighter, wearing his jacket and helmet. She closes her eyes while holding the picture next to her heart, falls asleep, and begins to dream of what her life would have been like if Bill hadn’t died in the tragic fire on Oak Street. She remained sleeping in her chair until six o’clock when Gloria came in to wake her for dinner.

THOUGHTS ABOUT BILL AS
I’M ABOUT TO MARRY WARREN

I know I’m marrying Warren tomorrow, but I so wish it would have been you such a long time ago.

I don’t know how you’ve done it but you’ve kept the promise you made to me the day you died about always being there for me, especially when I’d need it the most.

I still can’t believe it, but it’s incredible there have been so many similarities regarding the three of us, especially the coincidence of Warren having used the same song for his wedding with Linda; that we’d decided to use for ours.

I also know your spirit will be there with me tomorrow, watching as I walk down the white aisle to be married to the wonderful guy you sent me to be your substitute. As I sit here, thinking about all this, I sense you’re be sending me another one of your mysterious letters which always proceeds some important event in my life, and what event could be more important in my life than my wedding day.

My first YA Paranormal/Time Travel/First Kiss romance novel is entitled “I Kissed a Ghost” Available on Amazon. Here are the links for the KINDLE Edition

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Anchor

This week for the prompt word Lillie McFerrin has given us "ANCHOR" with which we're to write our Five Sentence Fiction.  This is my response which I've written using an acrostic format for the prompt word.

The Bride Gets What She Asked For

ANne and her millionaire adventurer husband Michael spent their honeymoon on his luxury yacht “The Happiness.”

Choosing to cruise the inland coastal waterway system they experienced an extremely smooth trip.

Having never been on a yacht Michael allowed her to take the wheel of his as he continuously kept a watchful eye on every move she made.

Ordinarily he’d never allowed it to happen, however he couldn’t refuse his new bride anything she’d asked for, especially on this, their honeymoon.

Reaching the widest point in the portion of the costal waterway they were in, they dropped ANCHOR after having their lunch to sun themselves peacefully on the highest deck of his yacht.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Innocence

For my response this week to Lillie McFerrin’s [http://www.lillimcferrin.com] prompt word of “INNOCENCE” I decided to turn to some real fantasy for a change.

A Prophecy Needs To Be Fulfilled

Hundreds of years ago a banshee cursed everyone living in certain village by changing the color of their skin to either blue or yellow.

And with the curse came a prophecy of when the curse would at long last be lifted.

It required the innocence of two youths who’ve shared each other’s ghosts of a hundred years ago to find the hidden entrance to the “Land of Two Colors.”

The well hidden entrance to this realm is only available for a three day cycle around a full moon, and once entered, the prophecy must be fulfilled by the end of the third cycle of three or the curse shall forever more remain in effect.

Will these two youths who’ve entered this realm figure out what needs to be done before time runs out; the story is still running its course so only time will tell.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Doors

Here we go again. It’s another Thursday, and another prompt word by Lillie on her website [http://www.lilliemcferrin.com], to challenge our ability to respond with a Five Sentence [Flash] Fiction. This week she’s challenged us with the prompt word of “DOORS”, and this week I’ve once again chosen to use my “almost trademark” acrostic format to respond with.

GETTING A SECOND CHANCE

Dorothy and her two friends had been captured by a wicked sorcerer, and were told they could each have a chance for freedom if they’d separate and go their separate ways by opening one of three DOORS through which they’d have to walk through.

Opening DOOR number three her friend Lillie walked through and quickly disappeared.

Opening DOOR number one her friend Robin Leigh walked through and likewise disappeared.

Reluctant to open the remaining DOOR, Dorothy finally opened it and walked through it as well.

Surprised by seeing her two friends at the other end, they immediately agreed to choose the other path in the woods which they’d first come to at the fork in the road, instead of the one which had lead them to the sorcerer’s castle the first time.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Freedom

Here we another week and another prompt word from Lillie. This week she’s given us the prompt “FREEDOM” on her website [http://www.lilliemcferrin.com] to write our Five Sentence Fiction. And this week I’ve decided to once again use an acrostic format in which to write my response. Adding to the difficulty is the THREE letters I had to use which began the final fifth sentence. I’d would love to read everyone’s feedback this week. THANKS

BECOMING AN AUTHOR, BUT AT WHAT COST ???

F ledgling romance Author Cindy Madison had always dreamt of meeting a romance author who’s famous.

R eceiving an invitation from Liz Whippet she didn’t hesitate to meet for some coffee and pie at Liz’s home.

E ntering the abode she got enthralled by the furnishings.

E leven hours later she woke to find ten other women slaving away at computers writing romance stories of every genre.

DOM inating the room she saw an Amazon with a whip continuously yelling, “Finish typing those five romances if you want ‘The Mistress’ to give you your FREEDOM.”

[The names use here at purely fictitious. Any connection with anyone living or dead is pure coincidence.]

You can find out more about Robin Leigh Morgan, who’s a YA Paranormal Romance author and Robin Leigh’s first romance novel “I Kissed a Ghost”, by reading yesterday’s [April 30, 2014] blog entry, "Tell Me More !!!."

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Vacation

With a week of not getting a new prompt word from Lillie, I think this week’s prompt of “VACATION” is quite appropriate.

NOTHING BUT !!!

Several years ago Jennifer and Michael finally kept their promised to take their two children for a winter vacation in New York City, a trip which had been well prepared for; including all the warm clothing they’d bought.

The trip there had been an exciting experience for Joseph and Nadia since they’d never flown before.

Once in New York, most their stay had gone just the way everything had been planned.

However, a “blizzard” struck; all the sights they’d planned to see the last two days, all the shows they’d planned to see got cancelled, and all the public transportation ceased to operate.

To make matters worse everyone got stranded at the airport for more than a day, wearing the same clothes, and missing important things at school and at work; which now made their wonderful vacation, nothing but.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Feathers

I’d would have responded sooner but I’m now in a great support as you probably tell from my previous post entitled “WEEKLY STATUS REPORT # 7.”

Anyway for my response this week for Lillie’s prompt word of “FEATHERS,” I’ve decided to return to the acrostic format I’ve done so many times previously.

Patience Has Its Rewards

FErn has enjoyed her summer job at the local zoo for several years.

AT one end of it you had all the wild animals like lions, bears, giraffes and elephants.

HEre and there you might spot one of the ten peacocks which had free range at the zoo.

R
oaming through the zoo Fern’s job included helping its visitors helping help in find the animals they came to see.

Saturday Fern finally found her 25th peacock feather, enabling her to complete the open fan of feathers on the wall of her room she started on the first day of her summer job ten years ago.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Whimsical

Another week is here and Lillie McFerrin has once again posted a new prompt word for which her readers are to write a Five Sentence Fiction.  This week Lillie has given us "WHIMSICAL" as this week's prompt, and here is my response:

The Purple Alien

Helen, after spending a few hours at her gym and exercise class, went to get her hair cut and styled at the popular neighborhood hair salon.

The occasion had been for a Halloween where she’d planned to go dressed as Cinderella.

Running late and still dressed in a skin-tight white exercise bodysuit and matching slippers she quickly left the salon to walk to her car in the nearby lot.

Overhead, a painter knocked over a new large can of purple paint which unfortunately poured all over Helen as she walked over below.

Not knowing what else to do she walked into the party still covered head to toe in the purple paint, where she won the prize for best costume for coming as an alien from another planet.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Companion

I truly loved writing my response to Lillie’s prompt word on her website for this week of “COMPANION.” I’d loved to read your comments on this one.

The Truth is Finally Revealed

For some reason I’ve never been the marrying type of person, perhaps it had been for a fear of being committed to one person, and only one person.

However, when I heard Michael’s sweet, devoted wife died suddenly from ovarian cancer thirty years ago, I felt he needed someone.

I didn’t do much, but clean his house, cook an occasional meal, kept him company when he wanted to go to a restaurant; and I never ever slept with him in the same bed.

This morning I received the tragic news from his only daughter that he’d died in his sleep.

And now, I’ve finally realized the truth; that although he’d never been my husband for the past thirty years; he’d always been my sole COMPANION.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Ruins

Well here we are again responding to Lillie McFerrin’s prompt word for the week of “RUINS.”  This week I’ve decided to respond with an old adage we’ve all heard numerous times

CHEATERS NEVER WIN

Jack for some reason always seemed to have managed to win every single car race he ever entered.  His competitors couldn’t help but take note of this achievement, so they set up a plan to find out the possible reason for his unprecedented success. So the night before the next race they set up teams to follow him wherever he might go through the night. One of the teams got successful and saw him sabotage each of his competitor’s cars so he now RUINS any chance of their winning the race. With the knowledge in hand all the other drivers spent the entire night undoing the handiwork Jack had done, and rejoiced when he finally came in last at the end of the race.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Lucky

This week Lillie McFerrin gave her readers the prompt word of “LUCKY” for which they’re required to write a Five Sentence Flash Fiction, here is my response.

Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining

Janice never seemed to have any luck going back as far as her college years.

Although she had been voted the homecoming queen, she never could get the attention of the best looking guy on campus; instead he went for the plainest looking co-ed, who he ultimately married.

At a supermarket due to her kindest she allowed a senior citizen with four items go ahead of her on the line who won the $10,000 prize for being the store’s 1,000,000th customer.

The same thing happened at the stationery store when a senior citizen bought the instant lottery ticket she wanted to buy and won the Grand Prize.

However, today, as she read the morning paper, Janice smiled from ear to ear, because the guy she didn’t married and his wife got arrested for running a $50 million Ponzi scheme.

FIVE SENTENCE FICTION - Furious

I’ve been quite busy the last few weeks with a number of writing endeavors. However, this week I’d made a commitment not to wait until the last minute to write my response.  For the next few days I’m going to attempt to catch up with responding to all those I’ve missed for those prompts I’d responded to.  So for my response this week I’ve decided to write something which many of might have had to endured with the recent snowstorms. So here is my response to furious.

SOMETIMES IT DOESN’T PAY TO GET UP

Chelsea has already been a hard working committed civil servant at the local welfare center seldom missing a day there except for her vacations.

However last week on Friday when her town got hit with a huge almost blizzard-like snowstorm she left home 90 minutes early so she could be there at her 9:00 AM start of her shift since the radio newscaster said all town offices will be open.

No matter which way she tried to go in her SUV accidents prevented her moving anywhere for several minutes at a time.

Eventually, travelling only has fast as 15 miles per hour she arrived at her office after driving for almost three hours only to find they’d posted a sign ten minutes earlier reading: “The office will be closed today due to the weather.”

Chelsea had no problem with what happened; that is until Monday when she got furious because they’d marked her absent with a day of leave time lost and had no recourse but to start a lengthy fight to get the day back with the aid of her union.
