BOOK REVIEW # 2015-110 - LIVING LARGE: WILNA HERVEY and NAN SMITH

I received a hardcopy of this book from the publisher through an Early Reviewer giveaway on LibraryThing, and the following is my honest opinion.

Unlike most biographies I feel this one had been written by an author, Joseph P. Eckhardt, who had a real compassion for the subject matter being written about, instead of merely writing one because it’s one of a famous individual. However, in this case the biographies of these two women grew out of the author’s love for the Toonerville Trolley silent film comedies of the early 1920’s.

Wilna Hervey had landed the part of Powerful Katrina in these comedies because she was the real life personification of the comic strip character which had started years earlier. This led to her meeting the daughter of her co-star, Nan Mason, which in turn led to the beginning of a beautiful relationship which lasted almost 60 years.

Naturally this sort of relationship between two women was essentially kept behind closed doors during this time, or in artist communities where a bohemian type of lifestyle was the norm. They ultimately settled in the town of Woodstock in New York, which has been an active artist community since The Arts and Crafts Movement came there in 1902.

It is a love story based on a shared love of the arts more than one of a sexual nature. And their love people led them to become star citizens of this free-spirited town.

For opening the eyes of everyone reading this book about these two “large” women, I’m happy to give it 5 STARS !!!

BOOK REVIEW # 2015-109 - A SLADE OVERLOAD

I received a copy of “A Slade Overload: An Erotica Romance Novella” through a giveaway on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion.

Ms. Knight wasted no time in getting to her first erotic scene as it’s in the first paragraph of this story.

Slade is the kind of guy every woman fantasizes of having to fulfill her sexual desires to the nth degree, and Lexi is the woman who’s lucky to have him as her partner. Even though she has come to expect how satisfying her next encounter will be, Slade is full of surprises when it comes to giving his hot partner a new sexual experience, as can be seen in this first paragraph.

Besides the sexual scenes this story is loaded with emotions. While Ms. Knight is apparently a New York girl, this story is sprinkled with some British terminology, which doesn’t have any impact on the storyline itself.

For allowing me fantasize being Lexis, I giving the author’s endeavor here 5 STARS.

STATUS REPORT # 61

Besides being ECSTATIC from being accepted as a Book Reviewer for The Romance Reviews website on August 25, 2015, I became ECSTATIC again on Wednesday because my OH had finally come home from hip surgery and REHAB; so perhaps now I can get some decent sleep. The only difference now will be getting used to sleeping on opposite sides of the bed due to the side of the body the surgery had been performed on.

My Amazon Ranking is slowly increasing to my goal of 5,000 by the end of this month, September; and right now it’s at 6,606 with 171 reviews.

As my ranking improves, I’m now once again starting to get requests to review books. Perhaps these authors feel I might be able to help them regarding their books. Not to be inundated with books I’ve got no interest in reading, I’m still only reviewing those books I’ve won through the giveaways I enter regularly and those I have a personal desire to read.

With the kids back to school, some of my readers will have some more time to relax and perhaps start reading books again. If this is you, you’re always invited to check out my reviews:

, and perhaps one of my reviews will prove to be useful in your decision making process of which book to read.

And with my dear OH home, perhaps I can have some normalcy return to my life and I can hopefully return to my current writing endeavors something I’ve really not done this entire year, and to increase my internet activities like being interviewed or doing interviews myself again.

BOOK REVIEW # 2015-108 - THE QUIET INTROVERT

I received a KINDLE Edition of this book through a giveaway on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion.

Introverts tend to live in a world of their own, while looking at those around them continuously interacting with each other. They wish they could interact along with them, but feeling secure in the way they are, they can’t.

The thing is, I feel comfortable being an introvert which why I love to write book reviews and have people love reading them. And when they contact me, I allow the extrovert in me to take over and to interact freely with them.

If you follow the book chapter by chapter, and answer all the exercises honestly, by the book’s end you should be able to begin to embrace the richness of you are actually are, and perhaps start cracking the eggshell which has encapsulated you all of these years. I know I’m now slowly beginning to allow this to happen.

After reading this book I not only feel it will benefit introverts, it should be read by the extroverts so they might be able to better understand their introverted friends.

So allowing my introverted self to write this review, I eagerly giving this book 5 STARS for all the possibilities it might create.

BOOK REVIEW # 2015-107 - PEPPER & POE

My OH and I have been cat lovers ever since we got married, which is why I can’t resist entering any book giveaway which is offering a book about cats, and how I came to receive this hardcover book through a GoodReads giveaway. The following is my honest opinion for it.

Ms.   Preston-Gannon has done wonderful in teaching her young readers what might happen when a new cat enters a home where an older cat already lives. I know this to be the case since we’ve gone through this three times, once when we adopted a second cat and twice to replace a cat which had died. And just like in the book, we’ve experienced how the older cat accepted its new companion but only until a certain point.

While the illustrations here help its reader in visualized what’s happening, the only drawback for the book is the black background the author/illustrator has decided to use for the illustrations; which is why I giving this book only 4 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW # 2015-106 - TRAVELLING SEEDS

I received a mobi.fle [KINDLE] copy of this book through a giveaway on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion for the book.

Ms. Bielawski had done a marvelous with this book which is part of a series entitled “Mummy Nature Series – Nurturing Children’s Curiosity.”

As soon as children are able to talk their inquisitive minds start asking questions regarding everything they see, and this book is there to help fill this void. The language is appropriate for their young minds to understand with the rhyming making it more appealing to their ears. The illustrations [also done by the author] on each page compliments the words which go along with it allowing for the child to better visualize what they’re reading.

After reading this book a child’s mind will have a slew of other questions regarding the topic the book has been written about which might ultimately drift off to other topics, so be prepared.

For enriching a child’s education about the world around it, I’m happy to give this book 5 STARS.
