RRBC "TREAT" READS BLOG HOP #5 - ROBERT FEAR

I’m a stop on this year’s RRBC “TREAT” Reads Blog Hop, and today [Day 5] I’ve got the pleasure of introducing Robert Fear

About Robert Fear

Born in Leicester in 1955, Robert's family moved to Surrey when he was 11. He was educated at Reigate Grammar School. After this he worked in a bank in the city for several years before getting the travel bug. Fred, a nickname he got at school, stuck throughout his travels and has remained with him to this day. His travels took him to Ibitha for the summer of 1977, hitch-hiking around Europe in 1978 and the USA and Canada in 1979. During this time he also settled and worked in Germany. Fred's Diary 1981 was written during the 158 days he spent travelling around Asia.

These days Robert is happily settled in Eastbourne, East Sussex where he lives with his wife and three cats. He works as a software consultant and has been able to combine work with some travel during the past fifteen years, having visited countries as far apart as Australia, Singapore, Ghana and Suriname.

TWITTER: https://www.twitter.com/fredsdiary1981

Book: EXCLUSIVE PEDIGREE

Book Blurb: John Fear was born into a religious sect known as the Exclusive Brethren. This sheltered him from the outside world as he grew up, but could not hide him from its influences. A struggle began in his mind that led him to leave the Brethren, along with his young family. Rather than reacting as many do and totally abandoning any belief system, John remained true to his convictions and continued a strongly religious way of life. Still serving God he worked in many places throughout the world, rubbing shoulders with famous people such as Billy Graham, Mother Teresa and Cliff Richard.

The writing style of this book is dynamic and engaging. John’s personality shines through and he paints an insightful account of his personal life and surrounding historical events. This account is not a sensationalised expose of the Exclusive Brethren. Instead, it follows one man’s life journey and is brought to life through his diary entries and family letters. This beautifully edited book is more than a memoir. It is a delightful mix of history, social customs, travel and belief. An honest, personal and emotive account of how religion can touch and shape a person's life - forever.

:RRBC: "TREAT" READS BLOG HOP #2 - MARY ADLER

I’m a stop on this year’s RRBC “TREAT” Reads Blog Hop, and today [Day #2] I’ve got the pleasure of introducing Mary Adler

About Mary Adler

I escaped the university politics of "the ivory tower" for the much gentler world of World War II and the adventures of homicide detective Oliver Wright and his German shepherd, Harley. I live with my family in Sebastopol, California, where we have created a garden habitat for birds and bees and butterflies, and other less desirable critters. (Unintended consequences at work again.) I love dogs and books, crows and compassion, writing and writers, and all things Italian, especially Commissioner Montalbano and cannoli, not necessarily in that order. I remind myself daily of the question poet Mary Oliver asks: "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

TWITTER: https://www.twitter.com/MAAdlerWrites

Book: IN THE SHADOW OF LIES
Amazon Link:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K7WYTSU

Book Blurb: Richmond, California. World War II.  Marine Lieutenant Oliver Wright comes home from the war in the Pacific injured and afraid his career as a homicide detective is over.  But when an Italian Prisoner of War is murdered the night the Port Chicago Mutiny verdicts are announced, and black soldiers are suspected of the crime, the Army asks Oliver to find out the truth.

He and his canine partner Harley join forces with an Italian POW captain and with a black MP embittered by a segregated military. During their investigation, these unlikely allies expose layers of deceit and violence that stretch back to World War I and uncover a common thread that connects the murder to earlier crimes.

In the Shadow of Lies reveals the darkness and turmoil of the Bay Area during World War II, while celebrating the spirit of the everyday people who made up the home front. Its intriguing characters will resonate with the reader long after its deftly intertwined mysteries are solved.

BOOK REVIEW #2016-064 - THE CEO PLAYBOOK

Even though I’ve worked for an agency of the City of New York for over 33 years I’ve seen how quietly the work environment can change simply because of a new director coming into place. Where we once had the opportunity to have fun/office parties and had always made the targets which had been set for us. Within a year we missed the yearend target for the first time. Naturally, this director didn’t take the blame, he told his bosses he wasn’t getting the supported he needed, meaning support from us; or trying to push the blame unto someone else.

If you’ve ever watched Undercover Boss you’ll know how many times “the man in charge” has loss the hand/control of his company. You’ll also know the best way to find out the truth of what’s happening in the trenches is to go there yourself, undercover, and learn the truth.

There’s a pattern you can see which emerges by the end of the show. A pattern which includes bringing back the things which had made the employees happy in the past, happiness didn’t really cost the bosses anything, like a simple recognition/acknowledgment for having done something well.

Instead of going undercover, those in the hierarchy of a company who are responsible for the fiscal fitness of that company should read this book. The well written plan for the transformation of what employees might call almost a tyrannical boss to one which employees would be more than happy to work with for a common goal is quite easy to be followed. The plan needs to have a solid commitment from those attempting for it to work as intended.

Great CEOs are not born; they’re created from those who are willing to have a little give/take for all procedures and those who will have to work with them. For willing to share the knowledge she’s gained through her life with CEOs and others in similar positions, I’m giving Ms. Ganescu 5 STARS.

A BLOG TOUR HAS STOPPED AT MY BLOG

I feel honored that NICHOLAS ROSSIS decided to stop here today with her blog tour. Mr, Rossis is the author of "Runaway Smile."

If you enjoy writing, write!

Ever since I remember myself, I have enjoyed writing. At school, many of my classmates dreaded essay-writing, whereas I could count on my essays to be read in class. So, when I finished highschool, I figured I’d try writing for a living.

Expecting words of praise, I showed one of my short stories to a career councillor who was a family friend. Instead of the expected thumbs-up, she told me in no uncertain terms that I had no future in writing, and I had best focus my energy on a “proper” career.

So, I became an engineer, then an architect, then a web developer.

In 2009, I decided to try again my hand at writing. A newspaper had a segment called 9, that included a short science fiction story each week. Usually, these were translated into Greek, but every now and then you would see a story written by a Greek. So, I submitted my story, not expecting much.

They published it, and sent me a cheque for 150 euros. I was ecstatic. I quickly wrote another couple of stories and submitted them, but the newspaper had by then ran into financial trouble and discontinued that segment. So, I sent one of the stories to a short-story competition, and won. The story was (traditionally) published in an anthology called Invasion.

I then started working on my novel, Pearseus, which turned into a series. I first published that on Amazon in late 2013, certain that I was missing something: surely someone would call my bluff. Amazon would take a look and go, “hey, you’re not an author. What are you playing at?”

Instead, people bought Pearseus and reviewed it. They said nice things about it and actually paid to read my work.

Wow. People liked my work. This really was an eye opener, and I continued to write and publish. I’ve learned a lot, developed my voice and interacted with hundreds of wonderful people.

Then, yesterday, the funniest thing happened. Remember that councillor I mentioned at the beginning? Apparently, she read Runaway Smile and asked my mother for my phone number – remember, this is someone I had not talked to in over 25 years.

Her first words were, “I wanted to congratulate you on your book. It’s absolutely wonderful. It’s clear that this is where your future lies. Don’t give up writing, it’s who you are and what you’re meant to be doing.”

Needless to say, I almost dropped the phone with surprise. All I could say was “aha,” and “thank you.” Then, I hung up and turned to my wife. “You’ll never guess who that was…”

If you want to see what this woman was talking about, why not read my children’s book, Runaway Smile, online for free and make up your own mind?

Book Blurb

I woke up this morning and I had lost my smile and it wasn’t my fault and I looked everywhere and it was gone. Then I met a workman and a king and the best salesman in the world and a clown and no-one wanted to give me theirs. At school, I asked Miss to give me hers, but she gave us a pop quiz instead, and then no-one was smiling and…
From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's books

A little boy wakes up in the morning and realizes he has lost his smile. After spending the entire day trying to find it, he learns the truth behind smiles: the only real smiles are the shared ones.
